(Whittier, Calif.) – The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) and Río Hondo College (RHC) invite students and community members to attend a free mental health and wellness event on Tuesday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the College’s central quad area.
The “Take Action for L.A. County” event will feature free food, live music, giveaways and wellness activities including meditation, yoga and more. Local mental health providers will also offer free resources and information to support emotional well-being.
The event is part of LACDMH’s countywide Take Action for L.A. County campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma during Mental Health Awareness Month. Río Hondo College is among several community colleges partnering with LACDMH this year to support students and residents.
“Through our annual Take Action mental health campaign, we aim to reach and support the residents of Los Angeles County and provide them with resources and tools that can uplift their mental wellbeing and highlight the importance of self-care,” said LACDMH Director Dr. Lisa H. Wong. “We are especially invested in resources that support the unique needs of transition age youth and young adults. This year, we are partnering with several community colleges, such as Río Hondo College, to meet students where they are, raise awareness, promote resiliency and bring greater access to mental health services.”
This is one of nine events hosted by LACDMH in May across Los Angeles County. The campaign will conclude with a final celebration Saturday, May 31, at Gloria Molina Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles.
