What Is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Río Hondo College account. In addition to your password, MFA asks you to verify your identity with a second step — such as approving a prompt on your phone — before you can sign in.
Depending on the authentication method you choose, you may verify your identity using an authenticator app, a passkey, or another supported verification method. Many passkeys use your device's built-in security features, such as a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition, making sign-in both secure and convenient. Passwords alone can be guessed, stolen, or exposed in data breaches. With MFA enabled, someone who has your password still cannot access your account without that second verification step. This protects your personal information, financial aid records, coursework in Canvas, and college email from unauthorized access.

MFA will be enforced for all students in two phases, based on the first letter of your last name:
