Scholarship Name Available Scholarships Description
A Taste of Rio Transfer Scholarship The A Taste of Rio Transfer Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements: 

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units 
  • Must have completed an incoming freshman orientation, educational plan, and assessment test 
  • Receiving no other form of financial aid
  • (1) letter of recommendation from a former teacher or community member (non-family).  
Achieving the Dream Scholarship  The Achieving the Dream Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:   

  • Must be a DREAM Act or eligible for DREAM Act student. 
  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 6 units
  • Must have a current educational plan on file
  • Must demonstrate financial need
Ad Williamson Memorial Fall Scholarship  The Ad Williamson Memorial Fall Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Completed 24 units at Rio Honda College
  • Must have made an overall contribution to the Theater Program with special emphasis in the area of stagecraft, such as set design, costume design, etc. 
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • A minimum of ONE (1) letter of recommendation is required from a faculty member in the Theater Department.
Dr Alex Sanchez Scholarship The Dr. Alex Sanchez Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Majoring in Environmental Technology  or closely related major
Assistance League® of Whittier Fall Scholarship The Assistance League® of Whittier Fall Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Single parent students who are head of household with dependent children
  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA 
  • Currently enrolled in 12 units 
  • Continuing Rio Hondo College student
  • Must live in the Rio Hondo College district service area
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Recipients must be available to attend an interview with the Assistance League© of Whittier and attend a recognition luncheon at the Assistance League© of Whittier Chapter House
Assistance League® of Whittier Quaker Chemical / EPMAR Corp. Nursing Scholarship The Assistance League® of Whittier Quaker Chemical / EPMAR Corp. Nursing Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled and in good standing in the ADN (RN) or LVN program at Rio Hondo College
  • Be a single parent and head of household
  • Live in the Rio Hondo College district 
  • Must demonstrate a financial need
  • Recipients must be available to attend the Assistance League© of Whittier and attend a recognition luncheon at the Assistance League© of Whittier Chapter House
Birnbaum Memorial Scholarship The Birnbaum Memorial Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA
  • Must be majoring in Kinesiology or physical education
  • Currently enrolled in at least 12 units
  • Completed at least one semester at Rio Hondo College
  • Must be a student athlete at Rio Hondo College
Bradt Family Scholarship The Bradt Memorial Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Survivor of domestic violence
  • Must be a student who will be transferring in the Spring 2019
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 units
BVR  Scholarship The BVR Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 units 
  • Must have completed 12 or more units
  • Be a single parent 
  • Be a participant in the CalWORKS Program
  • Provide a (1) letter of recommendation from a member of the CalWORKS program faculty or staff.  
Charles and Bonnie Isaacs Memorial Scholarship Fall The Charles and Bonnie Isaacs Memorial Fall Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Music major
  • Completed two (2) units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least nine (9) units or equivalent
  • One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from a member of the Rio Hondo College Music Department faculty.
Christopher John Paul Nicoll Memorial Scholarship The Christopher John Paaul Nicoll Memorial Scholarship for applicants that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a  3.3 GPA
  • Must have completed at least 12 units
  • Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units
  • Pre-law or paralegal major
Claudia Arrevillaga Guerrero Memorial Fall Scholarship The Claudia Arrevillaga Guerrero Memorial Fall Scholarship is for applicants that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units
  • Language or Arts major
  • Actively involved in student clubs on campus
  • Has an interest in the arts (performing and visual)
  • Exhibits positive characteristics while committed to education and volunteer work
Diane and Maurice Meysenburg Fall Scholarship The Diane and Maurice Meysenburg Fall Scholarship is for applicants that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • History or Sociology major
  • Must have completed a minimum of 15 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 9 units
Dr RoseMarie Joyce The Dr. RoseMarie Joyce Scholarship is for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Must have completed at least 12 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Preference will be given to a Chicano Studies major
Greg Garza Memorial Fall Scholarship  The Greg Garza Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • A student who is currently enrolled in Vocational Education (Certificate Program)
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Must have completed no more than 60 units
  • Demonstrate community involvement
  • Actively involved in student clubs at Rio Hondo College
EMUHSD Healthcare Scholarship The EMUHSD Healthcare Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Must major in EMT, AVN, LVN, Healthcare, Nursing, Medical Coding or closely related field.
  • Must be a graduate of a EMUHSD high school (Arroyo HS, El Monte HS, Mountain View HS, Rosemead HS, South El Monte HS, Valle Lindo Continuation School, El Monte Adult School, or Rosemead Adult School.
  • Must be currently enrolled in 9 units
  • Must provide a copy of a EMUHSD High School Diploma.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
Dr. Leonard A. Grandy Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.2 GPA or higher
  • Currently enrolled at Rio Hondo College
  • Transferring to a 4 year institution. Proof of acceptance will be required.
Harry L. Keats Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is for applicant(s) that best met the following requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • English major
  • Transferring to a four (4) year college or university. Proof of acceptance will be required.
Henderson Family Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must demonstrate unmet financial need in financial aid profile
  • Must have completed at least 12 units in Behavioral and Social Science Division courses
HJ Construction Scholarship SPRING This $500 scholarship is for a student(s) that:

  • 2.9 or higher GPA
  • Is graduating Spring 2016
  • Is in the process of attaining a degree in one of the following;
    • Architecture (for transfer)
    • Architecture Design and Drawing
    • Engineering Design Drafting
    • Civil Design technology
  • Must desire a career in the construction, design or engineering industry
  • Must be a full or part time student
James F. and Margaret L. McIntosh  Memorial Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Must be an Administration of Justice, Police, Fire Academy EMT or Nursing major
  • Completed at least six units of major specific coursework
  • Special consideration given to students with community service
Jean Korf Theatre Arts Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.75 GPA or higher
  • Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units;
  • Actively involved in Theater Arts program during the current fall semester and continuing during the spring semester (9 units between both semesters)

One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from full-time member of the Rio Hondo College Theatre Arts Department faculty

Jeanne McAndrews Bilar Memorial Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Nursing major
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or the equivalent
  • Transferring to a four (4) year college or university RN program. Proof of acceptance will be required.
  • Show sincere dedication to the need and care of hospital patients
Judy Schaper Sanders Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Majoring in health or medical related fields, including Kinesiology, Wellness or Heath Sciences/Nursing
  • Completed at least 12 units, including the current semester
  • Enrolled in at least six units
  • Special consideration given to students not receiving any other forms of financial aid
Library Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Must have completed at least 9 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Must demonstrate financial need
Osher Initiative for CA Community College Students Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Must have completed 24 or more “degree applicable” semester units (or the equivalent) at the time initial scholarship disbursement
  • Must be enrolled in six (6) or more units
  • Must have received a Board of Governor’s (BOG) Fee Waiver

Award will be pro-rated on number of units student is enrolled in.

Paul Anthony Reilly Memorial Scholarship This $500 scholarship is for an applicant that best meets the following requirements:

  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • English major
  • Transferring to a four (4) year institution. Proof of acceptance will be required.

One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from member of the Rio Hondo College Communication & Languages faculty

RHC CalWORKs Scholarship The RHC CalWORKs scholarship is for students who have a financial need and who provide primary financial support for their families and best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Must be enrolled in a vocational or undergraduate program.
  • Must be a current CalWORKs student
  • Completed at least six (6) units at Rio Hondo College

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must submit:

  • Notice of Action or Verification of Benefits
  • One Letter of recommendation from a CalWORKs Staff/Faculty
Rio Hondo College Counselors’ Re-Entry Student Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.75 GPA or higher
  • Must have a declared major
  • Must be attending college after five years from attending high school or returning to college after an absence of five years
  • Must have completed 30 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least six units
  • Special consideration given for students with a current educational plan on file
Rio Hondo College Counselors’ Transfer Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must have a declared major
  • Must have completed 30 transferrable units from Rio Hondo College
  • Must be transferring to a four-year college or university
Rio Hondo College Faculty Association Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Completed 18 or more units
  • Will be enrolled at Rio Hondo Fall 2017
  • Enrolled in at least nine (9) units or equivalent
  • Not currently receiving Financial Aid, except for the BOGG (fee waiver)
Rio Hondo College Emeriti Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Must have current education plan on file to get AS/AA degree, AA/AS-T degree or certificate.
Rio Hondo College Follett Bookstore Scholarship The RHC Follett Bookstore Scholarship is a $400 bookstore credit for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • Priority for Veterans/Active Military and DSPS
  • 2.0 GPA
  • Completed twelve (12) units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units or equivalent;
  • Will be attending Rio Hondo College in the fall 2016 semester
Robert Birnbaum Memorial Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Kinesiology/Physical Education major
  • An athlete at Rio Hondo College
  • Completed one (1) semester at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least twelve (12) units
Rotary Club of Whittier Scholarship The Rotary Club of Whittier Scholarship at Rio Hondo College supports students accepted for transfer to a 4 year school with a one-time scholarship award of $1,000.00 that best meets the following requirements:

  • 3.5 or higher GPA for the last three semester or term transcripts
  • Enrolled in 12 units or the equivalent this semester
  • Preference will be given to graduates of Whittier Area High Schools: Whittier High, Cal High, La Serna High, Santa Fe High, Whittier Christian or St. Paul
  • Transferring to a four (4) year college or university Fall 2016. Proof of acceptance will be required.
  • Candidates will be selected by the Whittier Rotary Scholarship Committee
Soñando al Otro Lado del Rio Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must be a STEM major
  • Must be DREAM Act or DREAM Act Eligible or undocumented student
  • Must be transferring to a four year university Fall 2017 and provide proof.
Ted Snyder Scholarship

 

 

 

 

Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Journalism major
  • Member of El Paisano newspaper

One (1) letter of recommendation must come from a journalism faculty member

The Helen and Joelene Amaya Memorial Scholarship The Helen and Joelene Amaya Memorial Scholarship is a $250 award for the applicant that best meets the following requirements:

  • 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Declared Drug Studies major
  • Have at least 12 units completed at Rio Hondo
  • Be a single-parent in EOPS/CARE and/or CalWORKs program

One (1) letter of recommendation from a faculty member in EOP&S, CARE, CalWORKs, or the Social Sciences division.

Wetsman Family Anthropology Scholarship Scholarships are awarded based upon the following factors:

  • Number of anthropology classes taken or currently taking at Rio Hondo College
  • 6 or more units of anthropology and/or sociology 110 required to be completed by the end of this term
  • Grades in anthropology/sociology 110 classes
  • Overall grade point average
Yoshio C. Nakamura Transfer Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 3.25 GPA or higher
  • Completed at least 30 units at Rio Hondo College
  • Currently enrolled in at least 9 units
  • Transferring to a four-year university
  • Demonstrate campus or community involvement
  • Must demonstrate financial need
Yoshio C. Nakamura Art Scholarship Scholarship for applicant(s) that best meet the following requirements:

  • 2.25 GPA or higher overall and 3.25 in Arts classes.
  • Art or Commercial Art major.
  • Completed thirty (30) units at Rio Hondo College
  • Transferring to a four (4) year college or university. Proof of acceptance will be required.
  • Demonstrate community service and/or campus involvement

One (1) Recommendation Letter must be from full-time member of the Rio Hondo College faculty in the applicant’s declared major
