Step 3: Start application.

Please click here for the California Dream Act Application 2019-2020 guide. This guide gives instructions on how to complete every single question in the application.

Questions 1-30 (All applicants must complete these questions).

Question 8 will ask about your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If you entered an SSN in question 8, was it issued after you went through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process? If yes, then you’ll check yes if your SSN was issued after you completed DACA.

Question 23 will ask about your gender. If you’re a male then you must register to the Selective Service. Most males between the ages of 18 and 25 are required to register, regardless of their immigration status. The Selective Service System does not collect or share immigration information with anyone. If you select “Register Me”, it will send your data to the Selective Service to register you. You will receive a confirmation by US mail of your registration within 90 days. Keep the original and provide a copy to your college financial aid office in order to receive state financial aid. If you don’t select “Register Me”, be aware that you may still be required by your college to fill out a paper registration form, sign, and mail it. If you’re a female, you don’t need to register for the Selective Service.

Question 31 will ask about if you’re interested in student loans. You’ll put no since it only applies to Cal States and UC’s.

Questions 32-59 Instructions (All applicants must complete these questions).  All students (dependent and independent) must provide their financial information for these questions. If an answer is zero or a question does not apply to you, enter 0 (zero). Do not leave any of these questions blank.

If you will not be filing a tax return, skip question 36, 37 and 38.

Questions 41-43 it will ask about your asset information. If applicable, you’ll answer them.

Questions 46-58 it will ask dependency questions (All applicants must complete these questions).

Questions 59-62 these questions are used to determine eligibility in the Chafee Grant program.

Questions 63-98 (Only dependent applicants must complete). Your parents must provide information for questions 63-98 if you are a dependent student (meaning if you answered “No” to every question from 46-58).

Question 65 will ask about parent 1 SSN and question 69 will ask about parent 2 SSN. Enter your parent’s SSN or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If your parent has both numbers, have them enter their SSN. If your parent doesn’t have an SSN or ITIN, enter 000000000.

Questions 84-91 will ask about your parent(s) income tax information.

If your parents will not be filing a tax return, skip questions 89, 90 and 91.

Questions 94-96 will ask about your parent(s) asset information.Questions 99-106 are for independent students. If you answered “Yes” to any of the dependency questions (46-58), you will need to respond to questions 99 to 106.

Questions 107 (College Codes and Housing Plans). You will put Rio Hondo College Federal code (001269). Then select the housing plan.

Question 109 the student will provide an electronically signature. When a student signs the application, he or she will be directed to a page with a parent signature link. A parent signature is not required for independent students.

Step 4: If you’re a dependent student, you’re parent will create a Parent Pin to sign the application. If you’re an independent student, you’ll skip this step.
