The MSC offers online classes that provide flexibility for students. The courses the MSC offers are divided into two modules: B-STEM Elementary Algebra (Math 053) it is two 2.5 unit modules (Math 053A, 053B) and for Intermediate Algebra (Math 070) it is two 2.0 unit modules (Math 070AB, 070CD). Completion of both modules for the one course is equivalent to completion of a traditional lecture course (4 or 5 units). Students utilize MyMathLab an online learning system that allows the online homework to be tailored by an instructor to suit each course. Students are required to take all tests on campus in the Math & Science Center. This online model allows students to complete as many modules as they are able to in one semester, or as few as one module per semester. For more information we highly recommend you visit the center to speak to an instructor.
Getting Started
New students must report the first week of class or they will be dropped from the course. They must visit the Math & Science Center (room: S-300) to fill out forms and meet with an instructor. This may take about 30-45 minutes.
When students meet with the instructor they will receive information on how to get started online. In addition, MSC staff is available to assist students with the set-up of MyMathLab, and all pertinent procedures and information about taking tests in the MSC. No appointment is necessary to meet with an instructor. Just visit the MSC within our hours of operation. Mon. – Thurs. 9a-8p & Sat. 9a-2p. If you plan on meeting with the instructor in the evening please plan accordingly; the instructor is not available beyond hours of operation.
Returning MSC Online Students
Students who are in progress in our courses from a previous semester are known to us as “returning students.” Returning students need to meet with an instructor on duty in MSC during the first week of the semester and fill out all required paper work. If you have any questions, you should come to the MSC (S300) to discuss it with our staff.
